Nature Walk

At just longer than 1 mile long, the historic Jolly Rand trail offers RiverWoods residents the opportunity to explore our unique New England environment. The trail, which takes hikers from Pickpocket Road, near the Ridge, to Route 111-A, locally known as Brentwood Road, has enough twists, dips and bumps to entertain an experienced walker. But, thanks to resident Pete Richardson and his friends at RiverWoods, the Jolly Rand has been cleared of major obstacles. Richardson worked over a series of months on removing fallen trees, building bridges over wet areas and generally returning the Jolly Rand to a state conducive to frequent use.

Our four miles of trails, in addition to the Jolly Rand, offers easy access to the tranquility of nature. With a mix of hard wood, soft wood, oak, pine and many others, the variety of foliage is outdone only by the beauty of the pristine Exeter River.

Pete Richardson discovered more than just our beautiful location when he started hiking our trails soon after he moved in. He had enjoyed hiking all over New England his whole life and was thrilled to find other residents that shared his love of nature. Together with his new friends he has continued enjoying the outdoors all year long, hiking in the summer, snowshoeing in the winter.

In addition to the trails exclusive to our community, the town of Exeter offers walkers ample opportunity to amble off road. From the Mill Pond to the Swazey Parkway along the Exeter River, there is plenty of variety only a five minute drive away.
