Explore the Seacoast Life

"My idea of a perfect summer evening is browsing the locally-owned shops on Water Street, before going to an outdoor concert at the band stand." – Lee Fortescue, resident since 2006

A Charming Town

The Exeter community is a charming, small New England town located in the heart of New Hampshire’s seacoast region, just minutes from the beaches of Rye and Hampton, and about 20 minutes from the bustling, entertainment-rich historic town of Portsmouth. Located on a tidal basin, the Exeter River flows right through the town, offering beautiful views and walking paths. The river is a popular spot for kayakers and boaters.

Exeter is also home to Phillips-Exeter Academy, which gives the town a distinctly collegiate air, with its ivy-covered brick classrooms, broad lawns and winding paths. The downtown area offers a wide range of services, from bookstores, coffee shops and restaurants, to gift, apparel and retail stores.

A Beautiful & Culturally Rich Region

Just an hour and 15 minutes from Boston, Massachusetts, Portland, Maine, and the lakes region of New Hampshire, and two hours from the White Mountains in northern New Hampshire, Exeter is close to many of the region’s top cultural and natural attractions.

A Superior Healthcare Resource

The town of Exeter also boasts an exceptional resource in The Exeter Hospital, which provides leading edge health care services through its network of affiliated physicians and more than 1,500 employees. Exeter Hospital is ranked in the top 10% of the country for acute heart attack care.  In addition, the acute care hospital has working affiliations with the Massachusetts General Hospital Cancer Center for radiation oncology; Massachusetts General Hospital for the Telestroke program; and the Dana-Farber Cancer Center, through the hospital’s medical oncology group, New Hampshire Oncology Hematology Professional Association. Exeter Hospital has received many awards, and offers support and health information for seniors.
