Support for Life (The CCRC)

“When my wife was in skilled nursing recovering from pneumonia, it helped us both so much that she had wonderful care, and that she was right down the hall so I could visit her whenever I wanted.” -- Henry Mixter, resident since 2005

Although there are 2,000 CCRC’s across the country and the concept has been around for 100 years, the idea is still relatively new in the New England region.  Simply put, a Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC), (sometimes called a life care community), provides residents with lifetime access to independent living, assisted living, and skilled nursing care all in one community.

In order to enter a CCRC, you must qualify both financially, as well as medically.  The medical approval simply means that you are able to live safely on your own.  There are many different types of CCRCs, and just as many different kind of contracts and costs.

RiverWoods at Exeter is a “Type A” non-profit charitable organization, and our contract provides important advantages.

The RiverWoods Advantage

90% of the first person entrance fee you pay is refundable to you or your estate in the event of your passing, or if you leave the community, upon resale of your independent unit.

You can live in  a private apartment in assisted living or skilled nursing  for as long as you need, with no time limit, and no significant increase in fee (just a small fee for two additional meals per day).

We have three residents who hold voting seats on our board, and we were created by residents, for residents.

RiverWoods was created by residents, for residents.

We have a Benevolent Fund to assist a resident financially should she or he encounter financial difficulty.

RiverWoods is an independent, locally managed organization.

We are nationally credited by CCAC/CARF, noted as exemplary in 7 areas.

RiverWoods three campuses each offer duplicate facilities - each offers their own Assisted Living, Skilled Nursing, 3 dining venues, pool, fitness center, library etc.
