The idea of RiverWoods started around an antique dining room table with the visionary thinking of two Seacoast Region
residents, Rosemary Coffin and Maryanna Hatch. They saw the need for a retirement community in the Seacoast Region that
would be affordable and would guarantee residents housing and health care for life, along with the time to pursue
continuing education and further development of their interests. Over the next decade, these two remarkable women
persevered, recruited supporters, overcame imposing obstacles, arranged financing, and brought the dream to reality.
What started in 1983 as Life Care Services of New Hampshire, a tightly woven band of friends and allies, grew steadily
and became The RiverWoods Company in 1995.
